Its been a while…

March 6th, 2012

And ive been back to the office for just about a month now, trying to finish up and get the last three weeks of the vacation up here. Since the waterproof Olympus camera i left Sweden with died in Capurgana and the new waterproof Olympus camera i got i Panama died within 2 weeks of me getting it, it will be a bit short on pictures.

Anyway, after actually getting in to Panama city on the evening of the 16th, more or less 8 hours before Ryan was arriving (yes, i did make my deadline, take that puerto obaldia). ended up in a hostel down town, Backpacker hostel with a big B, really didnt feel for a cramped place with backpackers but decided to take it for the night (Staff was awesome!), wait in Ryan and find something else the next day.

Me and Frenchy went out for food and drinks and taking a look at the city, and it was pretty dead being Tuesday night.
The missing teammember arrived around 2 AM.

next day we managed to get some rooms in a small hotel in the same building, it wasnt open yet, so there was no other people living there, no front desk service, we just got keys to come and go as we wanted.
Just the way i want it!

The next few days was filled with Sneaking in to the pool at the Casino a block away (i love being Gringo sometimes), trying to drink all the Coronas in the pool bar, taking naps, going out trying to get some crazy nightlife going.
When being used to Colombia, and Colombian nightlife, i just had to realize there was nothing Panama City could really offer, and packed with North americans pretty much everywhere.

After a few days, it was time to head up to Bocas del Toro, Cheap ass as i am, we dicided to take the night bus up  there. but the night we where supposed to leave, it turned out to be a pretty good party by the pool during the day (and it was the super bowl on TV) so we “missed” the bus.
Turned out to be a really good night out with more than a little crazy stuff.

Anyway, we had a deadline to make it up to Bocas, so the next evening we crawled on to the bus (oh, why dont i ever learn, its never worth to take the night bus just to save 50 buck).

Bocas, mm,,, Pretty good nature wise, but not even close as good as the San Blas, And if possible, even more cramped with gringos. I stayed at a place with the sweet name Mar y Iguana (get it?)

After a few days of beach, some rain, good food, My birthday and Ryans Ribs i decided to head back to Ciudad Panama for a few last days of the Casino Pool before hitting FT Lauderdale and do that place Ryan style!

Here is some of the few pictures i managed to get between my dying cameras.

Ill try to get my ass around to post the FT Lauderdale post before the week is over, lets see how that goes!

The hell route, capurgana to Ciudad Panama with lanchas

January 25th, 2012

So, was slowly heading from Turbo, via Capurgana (small village on the border to Panama) to panama city. trip started with a 2.5 hour trip on a speed boat from Turbo to Capurgana. or i would call it the back killer. 3X200 hp engine on a small boat jumping on the waves for two hours before we reached Capurgana, i dont think anyone got of that boat feeling “OK”. back hurt, ass hurt, arms hurt, but i made it bearable together with a Canadian guy and two bottles of Aguardiente.

Capurgana was nice, but not as nice as i was thinking. it was really a carribean beach town, hot, small and electricity only available during night.

This was also where i learned that my waterproof camera wasnt really waterproof. so  this post is going to lack the majority of pictures.

Anyway, i was heading up to panama city to meet up with Ryan on the 18th of january, so after i few days in capurgana it was time to start heading in to Panama.

route was supposed to be Capurgana – puerto obaldia – flight to panama city.
well once in Puerto obaldia (first outpost in Panama) after taken care of the customs and the immigracion it was time to sort out the flight to panama city. then i realized there was only 3 flights a week, and all flights was full for the next week.

well that sucked!
next option was a 7 hour speedboat trip to Carti (porvenir) and then a three hour car ride in to Panama city.

The only problem was that when asking when the next speedboat was leaving you couldnt get a frigging answer.
-”is there a boat leaving today?”
-”yes, in one hour”
after an hour
-”So, is the boat leaving?”
-”yes,  in two hours”
after two hours
-”so, is the boat leaving”
-”we cant find the captain”
when the captain shows up
-”are we leaving?”
-”i have no gasoline, we will leave later”
later that day, when i see the captain again
-”so, do you have gasoline now?”
-”we leave tomorrow”

So basicly, they had no fucking clue what they where doing or when, and you where stuck in the streetcorner because if you left, and the boat was really leaving, then you would miss the boat. no schedule, no information, 10 different answers.
pretty much as Costeño as it can get.
got stuck in that shitty border town for two nights, and spent 2 days sitting staring at a street corner!

Anyway, once we actually got the word that the boat WOULD leave, we got the info to be ready at the street corner at 6am, so we could leave early. well, once i woke up and got to the street corner at 6. it was dark, no fucking way we whare going to leave at the dark, so basicly the costeños just said a time to make us happy. another few hours in the street corner before we actually got on our way at nineish in the morning.

Then we basically followed the coast up Panama, from native (kuna) village to village re-fueling and heading for the next village. i was really happy i had my sun block 50 with me, because the sun was pounding down, and there was no shelter for the sun on the boat.

Finally made it to porvenir (Carti) and got a truck to take us in to Panama city.

Here is some few pictures that i got from the canadian guy, and from my cell ph.

It will probably be quiet…

January 13th, 2012

Here for a while.
Tonight i heading for Turbo and then arrive in capurgana tomorrow around mid day for some days of quiet time in a village with no roads, no cars and most probably, no internet!

Crossing the darian gap by speedboat and aim to be in panama city on the 17th or 18th.
Hasta luego!

Posted on the run….

San Andres

January 10th, 2012

After New years it was time to fly out to some Sun and Sand on Isla de San Andres.

An island belonging to Colombia, but located out the coast of Nicaragua.
When we arrived, belive it or not but it was raining, not really a problem, the bar was open and there would be plenty of sun later. you _might_ recognize some people in the pictures besides me, we pretty much just changed party location from Cartagena to San Andres.

Cool Island, and much more relaxed than Cartagena that is pretty crazy with loads of colombians comming for the party an mostly electronic music, while San andres is more rastafari, and more familys. As usual with this group, it doesnt matter what other people are there, these 10 people WILL be the party!

The five days in pictures:

New years!

January 9th, 2012

was spent at a finca just outside of Medellin with the Morales. I got on a nightbus the evening before so i would arrive to Medellin on new years morning. Slept pretty good on the bus up from Cali, just until 6 AM sometime when i heard i “fuck”, and a “Bonk” and the bus stopped. (yes, in colombian busses i do wear the seatbelt!)

We ran over a Motorcycle with two guys on it, after two hours of waiting, drinking coffe, looking at the police, looking on the guy on the street the ambulance finally arrived, or,,,a guy on another motorcycle with a stretcher arrived, half another later a lorry came to pick him up.

so, arrived to Medellin a few hours late but still in time for volleyboll in the pool and some sun!

so, new years eve was swimming pool, Sancocho, BBQ, lots of guaro, ron new traditions to learn and dancing, dancing and even more dancing.

Just great fun with great people!

well, lets try to do some pictures to describe the new years better!

Christmas, and as usual, Feria de Cali

January 2nd, 2012

well, by now i guess you have seen big titted ladies on horses and salsa dancers in previous Cali posts so i wont be putting up to much of that stuff this year. Anyhow, as usual when it gets time for christmas, its also time for me to head down to Gunty and the Christmas BBQ At pelican Larry´s to kick of the week of Feria de Cali and se how much crazyness i can get in to while drinking Guaro on the streets.

This year however, was very very quiet for me compared to the last years, looks like i am getting old!

I even managed to  see the parades three days out of five, normally i only manage to get down town in time for the parades twice in that week.

And the worst part, i only got my ass out to ChipiChape once!!!!

Here,s some pics for ya all:

After the mountains, some pool time and carnaval de santa fe

December 31st, 2011

So, after the fresh and chill mountains it was time for some beers in the pool, and throwing flour in the carnaval de santa fe de antioquia.

thats as close as snow on christmas i am going to get this year. enjoy the pictures!

Going to the Mountains

December 24th, 2011

So, one of the things i looked forward to most was to head up to Ituango, the hometown of my Paisa friends.

a small village 6 to 12 hours outside of  Medellin (depending on the roads)

http://g.co/maps/wgmzf

The trip was to deliver furniture to a house my friends built for a single mother and her children that used to live in a shed, leave the key to the house, deliver a playground to the local school and christmas presents to the local kids.

Aswell as drink “some” Guaro, sing and dance.

I will let the pictures speak for themselves

Finally back where i belong

December 20th, 2011

First two days has been hectic.
Arrived to rio negro, and it took AGES to get thru customs and immigration. i think half the world arrived at the same time.

Finally popped in to the hotel, got a shower and was greeted with some 3 cordilleras, off to Vertigo to get some papas criollas and alitas. just like coming home!

After closing time at Vertigo, we went out and finally ended up at a after hours place called La Manzana.
not a place you meet very much tourists, but it WAS a place where the aguardiente was flowing freely!

day after that, i slept in and day started late at Tia de Moralez.
here they have 2 christmas evenings for presents, 16th and 25th.

then we hit Rio Sur for some Sangria, laid back, upscale bars, took the elevator up to the seventh flor and the discos to check out the crowd, ended up getting som guaro Aaaand then it started.

btw, if you ever wonder where…

December 20th, 2011

Oompa-Loompa people live,,,

Its just outside Miami

Miami bitch!

December 20th, 2011

So, landed safely in Miami after changing in Amsterdam, and Atlanta.
Rojas had to work late, and sent her brother to pick me up and drop me at her office.
Aaaaand then it started, her boss brought out the tequila, since working late on a saturday night demands tequila, then dinner (Thanks John!).

After dinner it was straight back to Casa de Rojas, where there was a birthday party going on.
sweet!

Didnt even have to arrive in Colombia before i was having Guaro and trying to remember the salsa steps (thank god for marengue and vallenato).

Never managed to get my ass out of Rojas house in fort lauderdale, and she was kind enough to let me stay, instead of moving to Miami beach. so during the few days i was in town, i took the tri-rail down to miami, did my sightseeing and then went back up to FT. Lauderdale. and i have to say, FT Lauderdale was much nicer than Miami or Miami beach.
Thanks Rojas!

4 days went by really fast, and i wasnt that good with the camera so here goes

Everyone needs a bit of christmas

Leaving, heading for tomorrow…

December 10th, 2011

sooo, this vacation started up little wild. Standing in line buying schampoo at “willy´s” i recieve a email saying “your flight has been canceled and you have been rebooked on a flight leaving 12:05″

Six hours later than planned, and thats not an option.

saturday night was planned on going out with vanessa “loca” Rojas.
I would not miss that for anything in the world. after spending half an hour on the phone explaining to air france that arriving midnight on a saturday night wasnt an option for me, i managed to get them to book me on another flight bringing me to Miami at 6pm,
plenty of time to hit the clubs!

Aaaany way, half way thru the packing my neigbour showed up outside my door, wanting to party. one thing turned to another, to loads of wine, to rum with blueberrys, to Glögg to me coocking and when im writing this, im at schiphool wondering if i did finnish packing, and if i did lock the door. Who knows. only thing i know is that it was a good friday night, i THINK i packed everything, i THINK i turned the stove off. i KNOW that i have my passport, and i KNOW i have my credit cards,,,,,so what can go wrong?

Research before hitting Miami

November 6th, 2011

So everyone knows the importance of research before arriving to a new destination.

And after some work with google, i realise i need a new wardrobe, and new sun glasses if i want to blend in…

Then it looks like i need to get myself a boat, a warehouse to live in and a pet alligator…

40 days left…

October 30th, 2011

Then its time for a trip again, and as usual i DO have a plan.
And that plan will probably change along the way.

The only thing i know for sure is that i start in Miami, and i fly home from Miami.
The idea so far is:
Miami–>Medellin–>Cali for the feria–>back to medellin–>
Aruba–> Guadalupe–>Dominican republic–>Miami and then back home.

Roughly something like this:

Did anyone say “Bigger version of the Bermuda triangle”?

Good thing (?), looks like i am hitting the rural areas the day after i arrive to Colombia. my Paisa friends is going up to Ituango to deliver materials for their  project to build houses in their old home town, and i hope to be able to help a little bit.

(edit: all the building work for this year will be done when i arrive, but we are going up to turn over the keys of the new houses, still they are planning new houses for next year if someone wants to contribute)
Check it out here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KZhfa5dY9M

They describe the project as “A dream come thou with the help of everyone, a project with friends, started over a soup, the need for a decent home for a cheerful woman. Work with love, perseverance, social sense, A house for Trina”

If you check out the video around 7:15 you see this years project .
Anyone wants to contribute, let me know and i will bring it over when i go!

Bad thing (!): My gringo wing man had to work instead of have another Viking adventure with me, so please look up Ryan in my friend list on Facebook and let him know that work isn’t that important and its not too late to get a flight and join me!

Soon only 39 days left!

Luego!

Im amazed,,,,,

October 17th, 2011

Looks like i am actually going to get my ass and finish writing up the last adventure before i go on the next,,,

Well the  wedding experience tour 2011 ended as good as it started, with good friends in Medellin, mixed stay in Casa Kiwi, drinking beers with the backpackers, or drinking wine in the rooftop Jacuzzi at the florencia plaza, or going to la 33 and have some of Alejos awsome wings, beer mixed with tequila at Vertigo.

All of this with really good friends!

Perfect!

And now,,,,some pictures to finish it off.
